Trade PA gets HMRC production access for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
Review Income Tax quarterly updates on the Trade PA website using the records you keep for jobs, invoices and expenses.
HMRC has granted Trade PA production access for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax and confirmed that our fraud-prevention checks have passed. This gives our Income Tax integration access to HMRC’s live service.
Where we are today
Quarterly updates are now available on the Trade PA website for eligible sole traders with one self-employment business using cash basis accounting and standard quarters. VAT-registered traders are included. Year-end filing remains separate.
Why this matters for a trade business
Your working day already produces the records you need to understand your business: customer invoices, merchant receipts, mileage and payments. Keeping them together makes it easier to spot missing paperwork and give your accountant a clear picture.
The Income Tax review brings those everyday records together so you can check the cumulative figures before sending an update yourself.
What the first release covers
The first release supports a single self-employment business using cash basis accounting, standard quarters and the current tax year. It lets you connect through HMRC, view the deadlines HMRC returns, review cumulative income and expenses, and approve a quarterly update yourself.
Missing payment dates and uncategorised expenses need to be resolved before figures are sent. A submission record retains the figures and HMRC’s response. Nothing is filed automatically.
How quarterly updates work
Quarterly updates are summaries of business income and expenses, rather than annual tax returns. Each update covers the tax year to date. For standard periods, the second update covers 6 April to 5 October, with a 7 November deadline.
HMRC explains the periods and deadlines in its quarterly-update guidance. Check your own HMRC obligations and the accounting basis you use with your accountant.
Where Eve fits in
Eve helps with the everyday admin behind those records, including logging expenses and mileage. You still check what has been recorded. The Income Tax review is a separate step: Eve will not file a tax update on your behalf.

What is separate
- Year-end filing: the first release covers quarterly updates only. You will need your accountant or other compatible software to complete your annual tax return.
- VAT and CIS filing: these services are not included in this Income Tax approval. They will follow their own approval and release process.
- HMRC recognition: the authorised MTD artwork shown on this page relates to the Income Tax service and its supported quarterly-update scope. It does not cover VAT or CIS filing.
What you can do now
Keep your records up to date, match payments to invoices, and retain receipts and CIS statements. Resolve gaps with your accountant before a deadline. On the website, open Accounts → MTD Income Tax. Connect using your own HMRC login, select a completed quarter and review the figures. Confirm your VAT accounting treatment and check expense amounts, payment dates and any VAT settlements. If you use multiple businesses, property income or a different accounting basis, continue with other compatible software.
We will keep the Income Tax status page updated as the rollout progresses. If you have a question about the release, contact support@tradespa.co.uk.
